Single vineyard Ried Hasel in Straß, Kamptal

A loess soil that imparts body and softness.

Loess with depth.

The Ried Hasel single vineyard lies to the east of the village of Straß at an altitude of about 230 to 300 metres, with a southwesterly aspect. The soil is a Chernozem (black earth) derived from loess. Loess is a calcareous rock dust (silt) that was blown in here from the Alpine region during the vegetation-poor cold phases of the Ice Age, originating from the barren forefields of glaciers and river plains, and now forms a loamy-sandy, consistently calcareous soil with good water retention and a balanced mineral composition.

Quality that grows.

Origin with a personal signature.

Single vineyard wines are the most precise reflection of their origin. They convey the interplay of soil, single vineyard and microclimate—and express the individual character of each Ried with depth and complexity.

Village wines showcase the typical character of their place of origin. They combine regional influence with the geological and climatic particularities of the area—a clear expression of terroir.

Fruity, fresh and crisp—district wines exemplify the Kamptal. Shaped by cool nights, sunny days and the valley’s diverse influences, they bring the regional style authentically to the glass.

In Kamptal, the climate produces wines with character.

The Kamptal DAC region is shaped by the dynamic interplay of two climatic poles: warm, Pannonian air currents from the southeast meet cool breezes from the northwestern Waldviertel. These contrasts ensure fresh nights, a long growing season, and delicate aromatic expression. With approximately 550 mm of rainfall and an average annual temperature of 10 °C, stable conditions arise in which expressive wines can thrive.

The loess soils here give our wines this special softness – you can almost feel the calm that Ried Hasel radiates.
